Upon finishing the 1-year residential GME pre-sea training, you join a vessel as a Trainee Marine Engineer (TME) / Junior Engineer for 6 months of mandatory sea time. After passing the MEO Class IV Part B COC exam, you become a licensed 4th Engineer, and progress to 3rd Engineer, 2nd Engineer, and ultimately Chief Engineer.
